Since Pinterest became my addiction last year, I have fallen in love with making my own cleaning products. When I started my blog in September, I wrote a post on my favorite diy cleaner. This version of homemade multi-purpose cleaner is very similar, except that I used a different vinegar and left out the scented oil.
I LOVE this cleaner. Even though I can usually get name brand cleaners for next to nothing, thanks to my couponing, I don't buy them any more. I think this homemade multi-purpose cleaner beats any name brand cleaner in terms of it being effective and inexpensive.
This homemade multi-purpose cleaner consists of dish soap, rubbing alcohol, citrus vinegar, and warm water. I know a lot of people on Pinterest swear by blue dawn, but I really don't think it matters for this use. As you can see from my picture, I use 70% isopropyl alcohol. I've tried with 50%, and don't think that works as well. In my mason jar is my citrus vinegar. I put my used citrus peels in the jar and covered it with plain vinegar, then left it in a dark cabinet for at least 3 months. The citrus peels completely get rid of the vinegar smell, which is great because I don't like the smell.
Homemade Multi-Purpose Cleaner:
3/4 cup Rubbing Alcohol
3/4 cup Citrus Vinegar
3/4 cup warm water
small squeeze of dish soap
Combine all ingredients in a spray bottle and shake gently.
I use this homemade multi-purpose cleaner on everything. I use it to clean my kitchen counter tops, on the stainless steel appliance, on windows, on laminate floors, on mirrors.... It's wonderful! Because of the alcohol the cleaner dries really fast. My only tip would be to make sure to use a microfiber cloth on the stainless steel and laminate floors to avoid any streaks.
