Did you know that you could save up to three lives today?  I know this post is very different from what I normally write about.  But because of all of the recent natural disasters, I know I'm not the only person who is trying to figure out how I can help.  When I heard about the "be Impulsive" campaign from the United Blood Services, I signed up right away.

I'm a Texan and have several personal connections to the victims of Hurricane Harvey.   I'm happy to say that my hubby has been able to raise almost $1000 to donate, and I've been able to collect needed items to donate to some of the shelters.  But there's something that you can donate that money just can't buy: life saving blood.  A single blood donation from you can save up to three lives.

I donated blood for the very first time this past week.  I'll admit, that I've always been a little nervous to do this, but the whole experience was really positive.  I was able to make an appointment and fill out my paperwork online, which meant I was in and out of the donation center in less than an hour.  The staff was super friendly and I was immediately put at ease.   Even though I followed the directions of making sure to eat breakfast and drink plenty of water, I was offered complimentary water and snacks before and after my blood donation.  It didn't hurt and I was surprisingly comfortable the whole time. I left feeling great knowing that my single donation could help up to three different people.

Your blood could save the life of many different types of people including those of pregnant women and their newborn babies, people living with challenging health conditions, and cancer patients.  In fact every two seconds someone in the U.S. needs a transfusion of donated blood.  And since so many hospitals and blood banks in the areas affected by Hurricane Harvey suffered damage, donating blood right now is one of the best things you can do to help.
