One of my favorite cooking movies is Julie and Julia. I have so much fun watching Meryl Streep play the part of Julia Child. Can you imagine what it was like for Julia Child to learn how to cook in France? What an experience! I always enjoy learning new cooking techniques and figuring out little tips and tricks to get your recipe just right. I love the part in the movie where there is so much excitement over learning how to make mayonnaise.
How to Make Mayonnaise
Making mayonnaise used to be one of those techniques that took some serious time to master. Too bad Julia Child didn't know how to make mayonnaise in a blender. Nowadays, thanks to modern technology and Pinterest, making homemade mayonnaise is really easy. All you need are a few ingredients and a hand blender. You can make this yummy dill mayonnaise in less than 2 minutes.
Not even 2 minutes! You can have freshly made mayonnaise in a matter of seconds with this method. All you need to do is add an egg, oil, mustard, lemon, salt, and pepper to the cup your hand blender came with or a jar that the blender can fit into.
Then stick the hand blender down into the mix and turn it on. In just a few seconds, your ingredients will start to form homemade mayonnaise.
About half way through the blending process, I like to add the fresh dill. Once it's all mixed up, transfer it to a serving bowl and garnish with more fresh dill.
Since there is raw egg in the mayo, I would suggest using it up within a few days just to be on the safe side.
I've never been a huge fan of mayonnaise, but I enjoy a dab in my tuna salad or in deviled eggs. My mom on the other hand would eat plain mayonnaise sandwiches as a little kid and I just found out that my hubby did the same thing! Anyway, this easy dill mayonnaise recipe proves once again, that homemade is better than store bought any day.
If you still don't believe me that you can have homemade mayonnaise in such a small amount of time, here's a short YouTube video to see how easy it is to make:
Of course you can leave out the fresh dill or substitute some other delicious flavor in it's place. I'd love to know how your homemade mayonnaise turns out!
