Hello and welcome to this year's Handmade Holidays blog hop! I'm so excited because today I get to team up with some amazing bloggers to bring you a collection of handmade Christmas gifts and an awesome $50 Michael's Gift Card giveaway. I'm showing you how to make an easy handmade clutch - perfect for the fashionable girl on the go.
Easy Handmade Clutch
The materials you'll need to make this clutch are:
- A 9 in. zipper
- thread
- pins
- (2) 10 in x 6 in pieces of fabric
- (2) 10 in x 6 in pieces of lining
- scissors
- a sewing machine
Handmade Clutch Instructions
Start by laying a piece of the main fabric facing up and line up the edge of the zipper with the zipper facing down. Now, place the lining directly on top facing down and pin the three pieces together. Sew a seam right along the zipper. Use a zipper foot if you have one. Otherwise, unzip the zipper about half way through sewing to continue the seam.
Here's what it will look like when you have the main fabric and the lining attached to one side of the zipper.
Repeat the same steps for the other side of the zipper.
Next, sew the right sides of the fabric together to form the bag.
Cut the corners off of the main fabric, but make sure not to cut through your stitching.
For the lining, only sew the two sides leaving the bottom open so that you can still open the zipper to turn the bag right side out.
Once the bag is turned the right way, fold the bottom of the lining in slightly and sew a seam.
And now you're done! Less than 20 minutes and you have a customized handmade clutch perfect for gift giving.
I especially like the unexpected pop of color from the lining.
I think I'll be making a few of these this year, but not all of the same. Make sure to follow me on Instagram to see how I personalize some of the clutches for Christmas gifts this year.

I’m so glad to hear that! 🙂
Love it! Need to get over my fear of sewing zippers. Visiting from Handmade Holidays.
LOL Victoria! I used to be afraid too, but they’re not that hard once you get the hang of them 🙂

Hi Jordan,
I’m a big fan of little clutches. Zippers always scare me but you made it look doable. Thanks!
I love this clutch! I love a bag with a fun inside, no boring black or tan interiors for this girl. I often wondered how to get the lining in and your instructions were very clear. I think I need to plan my own clutch for those quick trips.
What a wonderful design. I know I always have these bags around in several sizes to hold a huge variety of goods.
That’s a beautiful clutch, and a very detailed tutorial. Thank you! I love the little pop of color from the lining, too.
Thanks Rebecca!
Wonderful idea and a beautiful clutch! I personally would add a handle but your project is awesome!
Thank you, and that’s a good idea! I’ll try that next time 🙂
