Earlier this week, I noticed that my hair could use a little TLC.  I torture my hair with my blow dryer and flat iron, and it has been forever since I have had a trim.  I usually have to pile on a lot of hair serum and shine spray to make my hair look healthy and shiny.  Unfortunately, the look only lasts about half a day before I need to put more on. If you want to trim your hair on your own, you must first ensure that you have the right tools, such as the ones from Barber Scissors Australia.

Since I have been loving trying out do it yourself beauty recipes, I decided to try a home made hair mask.  I read up on a lot of ingredients which are good for hair.  Since there were so many great ingredients to choose from, I went with the ones that were already in my kitchen.

For this mask I used:

2 Tbsp Honey 2 Tbsp Olive Oil 2 Tbsp Coconut Oil 1 egg yolk 2 Tbsp Apple Cider Vinegar

I have a lot of long, thick hair, so you may need only a fraction of this recipe.  I heated the honey, olive oil, and coconut oil in the microwave for about 20 seconds.  I then added the egg yolk and apple cider vinegar and mixed the whole thing up.

It was a tiny bit messy trying to pour this mask on my hair while I leaned over my bathroom sink, but not too bad.  I then combed through my hair and covered it with a plastic shower cap.  Next, I went about my business and left the hair mask on for 40 minutes.

I washed and conditioned my hair as I usually do.  Then, I followed by using a rinse of half apple cider vinegar half water.  I let my hair air dry.

I don't think my hair has ever felt so soft and I can't stop touching it.  Even my husband can feel the difference, so I know it's not just my imagination.  I have not put anything additional in my hair since using the mask and my hair has a shine that usually takes a lot of product to achieve.

I love figuring out better and less expensive solutions for everyday life!  I'm going to start using this hair mask at least twice a month from now on.

  1. Hi I have been making my own products for 3 months now. I love this hair mask. I have always since I was 16 used mayo or other in my hair. Now I am 54. Wish I would have known back then of making my baby wipes, laundry detergent. All household cleaning supplies. Thank you for your blog and recipes.
