Welcome to day four of the Homemade with Love blog and video series! Today we're making these adorable mama and baby elephant Cricut thank you cards using any of the Cricut explore or Cricut Maker machines. You may have noticed that there was a time gap in the Homemade with Love series. That's because I had a baby on what was supposed to be the original day three of the series! My little guy came two and half weeks early and we spent a few days in the hospital. But we're home now and doing great so the series can continue. With a brand new baby, plus my other two little boys, I'll be sharing projects every other day instead of on consecutive days from now on.
Anyway, in anticipation of my baby's arrival, last month my friends threw me a zoo safari themed shower. I thought this mama and baby elephant card design would be perfect for my thank you notes.

If you want to skip the steps of inserting the card into your project and sizing it, you can go straight to the cut file here. This is one of the only times I'll recommend the scoring stylus over the scoring wheel. The card requires very little scoring, the cardstock is easy to fold, and I don't think it's worth the hassle of switching from the scoring wheel to the blade, especially if you're making multiple projects - I'm making about 20 cards of these Cricut thank you cards.
Here's a helpful hint for removing cardstock from your mat: gently bend the mat back while removing your cardstock. This way your cardstock will not curl as it does when you remove it from a flat mat. Be careful doing this though, especially with a brand new mat - I've cracked a new mat right in half being too aggressive with bending.

On a side note, Cricut just confirmed that the rumors are true. They are retiring the Cuttlebug in 2019. This means that If you've been thinking about getting one, now is the time to do it. Once the Cuttlebug is sold out online and in store, you won't be able to buy a new one. I just got one back in December and absolutely love it! You can purchase one here. Anyway, back to our mama and baby elephant card....
Once you have all of your pieces cut out, it's easy to put the card together. I like to start by folding along the scored lines and using the straight edge of my scraper to get a super crisp fold. Then just glue the pieces together with a glue stick. Once the glue on your card is dry, you can write your message and hook the elephant's trunks together. On the backs of my cards, I'm putting a small note letting my recipients to unhook the trunks.
I'm crazy about how these Cricut thank you cards turned out. They are so perfect for saying thank you to everyone who came to my baby shower (which I'll be sharing with you once the Homemade with Love series is over.) What will you be using this design for? Thank you cards? Invitations? Maybe to welcome a new baby?
