Hi! I hope you're having a magical day, and if you're not - you're about to! I'm going to show you how to make professional looking airbrushed unicorn cookies and share this amazing unicorn party from Posh Parties.
My friend Mykle runs this adorable party hall here in El Paso called Posh Parties. It is specifically for elegant little girls' tea parties. She currently offers Signature Princess, Ice Queen, Woodland Fairy, Enchanted Mermaid, Belle of the Ball, Latina Princess and custom party packages. I've seen the Beauty and the Beast inspired party (Belle of the Ball) and the Signature Princess parties in person, and y'all.... I'm looking for ANY excuse to throw a party there myself. Besides kids' parties, she also does baby and bridal showers. It's so beautiful and surprisingly affordable.
Mykle messaged me last month and said she was adding a new party package: Rainbows and Unicorns!!!!!
Yes! If you're an eighties baby like me, you probably had rainbows and unicorns covering your room at some point growing up LOL.
So.... over the summer I started a home bakery, Desert Flours bakery. I have 2 little boys, and starting the bakery has allowed me to unleash my girlie party creativity and I have been obsessed with making unicorn cookies. I've posted several on Instagram.
Anyway, for the Rainbows and Unicorn party debut, Mykle asked me to whip up a batch of my Unicorn cookies, and of course I said yes.
Aren't they beautiful? I love them. And they are pretty easy to make with the right equipment.
How to Make Airbrushed Unicorn Cookies
To make these airbrushed unicorn cookies, I started by creating a cloud and a unicorn stencil with my Cricut Explore. If you have a Cricut cutting machine, you can either access my stencil files down below in the materials list, or create your own in the design space.
Making stencils can be a little tricky, so I'll post a more in-depth how to make stencils post soon, but here's the gist: In the design space choose an image that is basically just an outline of what you want your stencil to be (in this case the unicorn.) Size your image according to the size of your cookie. Then under the "Shapes" tab on the left hand sidebar, insert a square. I like to make my square about 6 inches so the stencil will easily fit into a stencil genie. Next, you're going to want to move the square behind your image, making sure that the image is centered. Select all and then hit "Slice" which is locate on the bottom right hand sidebar. Your stencil is now all ready to go!
I have been using clear plastic folder dividers to make my stencils, even though you can purchase plastic sheets specifically for making stencils. To actually cut them out with a Cricut, turn the dial to custom and from the drop down materials list choose transparency under "plastics." You definitely want your mat to have a good grip so the stencil doesn't slip during cutting.
If you don't have a Cricut cutting machine, no worries! You can still make these cookies. There are a ton of super cute stencils available for purchase that are perfect for this project that I will add to the materials list below.
You'll need a completely dry royal icing frosted cookie. (You can find some awesome icing tutorials over at Sweet Sugar Belle.) There are 2 ways I like to make these airbrushed unicorn cookies. First, airbrush the cookie in just one color - which means you're done with the design in less than 45 seconds per cookie. Second, is to use multiple colors to airbrush the clouds and then use royal icing to add the unicorn design on top. This takes much longer, but the results are awesome!
Since it was super hard for me to get action pictures, here's a video:
So, you can see for the monotone cookies, simply airbrush right at the edge of the cloud stencil starting at the top of the cookie and making your way down in however many layers of clouds that you would like. Then place your unicorn stencil on top of the clouds and airbrush the same color. For the multi-colored cookie, I actually start from the top and work down too. You'll need to clean out your airbrush between colors. Once the food coloring is dry, place the unicorn stencil on top, add some thick royal icing and then use a scrapper across the stencil for an even finish. For both types of cookie, pipe a bead border around the edge. (If you are looking for any of these supplies, I'll have them available for you in the materials list.
If you'd like to make them yourself, here's the materials list with everything you would need:

Now let's par-tay!!!!
I was so excited to arrive at Posh to find that my cookies went so well with Mykle's rainbows and unicorn party set up.

Right? Who wouldn't want to party here?
One thing I love about Posh is how well Mykle "gets" what kids want. Obviously she's amazing at designing a gorgeous party. But she also knows how to make sure the kids have a fun time. First off, what unicorn obsessed little girl wouldn't want to play dress up?
The kids can sing to their hearts' content up on the karaoke stage.
To take home, the kids can make custom bracelets.
And they can also make their own stuffed animals. The kids pick their animal, and then add stuffing along with a toy heart and a written wish. Super cute!
And they get to take them home in these beautiful gift bags. I couldn't believe I had never thought of using irridesent cellophane as tissue before!
Aren't these cupcakes the cutest things ever!
P.s. they're included in the party package. And I have to give a shout out to one of the other vendors for this party, Popcorn Extravaganza.
If you've ever visited my blog, you may have picked up on the fact that I am a popcorn addict. Popcorn Extravaganza has a location in the same shopping center as Posh Parties so I hopped over there to try some of their popcorn. AH-MAZING!!!! Fortunately there is another location right up the street from my house. It's pretty much my new favorite thing in life.
Are you feeling the magic yet?
If you live in El Paso, call Mykle at Posh Parties ASAP to book this party. There is absolutely no way you can do this party at home for as little as she charges. (Sorry non-El Pasoans) But if you live elsewhere, here's another material list to recreate this party.
