We recently released a bunch of ladybugs into our garden and I've been a little obsessed with ladybug crafts lately. Plus I figured with most people at home right now, you might be looking for easy ways to celebrate birthdays at home. As I was browsing through the images in Cricut Design Space, I stumbled across the "Happy Birthday little lady" image and just had to make a cake topper.

This cake topper is so perfect for a spring birthday. But since we have been spending so much time in our garden, I'm also hoping to make some super cute butterfly, honey bee, and picnic ant party craft projects with my Cricut Maker soon.
Ladybug Themed Birthday Cake Topper Materials:

- StandardGrip Mat
- Black Kraft Board
- Red Foil Poster Board or Red Glitter Paper
- Green cardstock

- hot glue sticks
- glue sticks

The materials I have listed are exactly what I used, but you can use cardstock for each if the layers if you prefer or that is what you have on hand. I like to use kraft board as the base layer for my cake toppers because it makes the topper sturdy and won't curl.
How To Make A Paper Cake Topper
Start your ladybug birthday cake topper off by opening the Cricut Design Space project here. The images used to create this project are all available in the Cricut Access Plan. In case you don't know what that is, the Cricut Access plan is a monthly subscription that gives you access to hundreds of thousands of images in Cricut Design Space plus you get a 10% savings on all product purchases from Cricut.com.

I decided to cut my foil poster board with the colored side down to make sure I got a really clean cut. If you decide to do this too, make sure to turn the mirror-on option on when you go to cut out your material.

I just got the Xyron Create-A-Sticker machine and this was the first time I used it. It was really easy. I placed the cutout with the face up into the machine and turned the knob to pull the design through.

On the back of the cake topper I used hot glue to add a paper straw.

I used tweezers to add a green rhinestone for the dots on each of the "i's along with a dot of hot glue.

The best part about this ladybug cake topper (besides being crazy adorable) is that it is so quick to put together. From cutting out to being fully assembled took me roughly 5 minutes.

This project can be made with a Cricut Maker, Cricut Explore, or even a Cricut Joy. But if you are going to using a Cricut Joy, then you will need to resize the cake topper to fit your mat.
