Who Has The Best Mexican Shrimp Cocktail Recipe?
Mexican shrimp cocktail is the first thing I search for on a menu whenever I go out to eat. Although my family has our favorites, I love to try new Mexican restaurants whenever we get the chance. And trust me, there are plenty of Mexican restaurants to choose from around here.
I've spend most of my life living on the Mexican border. I grew up in San Diego and then moved to the El Paso area during college. Both cities have amazing Mexican food restaurants. And most have some really delicious Mexican shrimp cocktail recipes!
But my FAVORITE place to get great Mexican food is at my sons' grandmother's house LOL. She is an amazing cook. I've been trying to convince her to open a food truck. She would definitely have customers lined up like crazy. Her father used to own a taco and tamale shop in Juarez, Mexico. I usually leave the traditional Mexican recipes up to her, but knew I had to add some to my recipe box as well.
Plus, when I was expecting my third baby, Mexican shrimp cocktail was my major pregnancy craving. Since my doctor said I could have shrimp up to three times a week, that's how often someone was running out to pick up take out.
That can get really expensive!
So, I started making my own Mexican shrimp cocktail at home and it is delicious!!! Here in El Paso, Mexican shrimp cocktail is usually served in margarita glasses. I love this presentation. It's so fun and pretty. Plus I get extra use out of my margarita glasses.
Mexican shrimp cocktail makes a fantastic party appetizer. In fact my mom whipped up a batch for my baby shower and served it in little cocktail shooter glasses.
How Do You Make Mexican Shrimp Cocktail?
So how do you make Mexican shrimp cocktail? It's easy! You can so just how easy this seafood recipe is in my YouTube video.
I like easy recipes, especially when they're fast too. I start with thawed cooked tail off shrimp. Of course, you could cook and peel raw shrimp if you prefer, but it will add to your time. Then chop up fresh celery, cucumber, jalapeno, green onion, and cilantro. Dice cherry tomatoes and a creamy avocado.
Combine your shrimp, celery, cucumber, jalapeno, green onion, cilantro, tomatoes and avocado. Then slice into a lime and squeeze the juice into your dish. I find it helpful to firmly press down on your lime and roll it on the counter before slicing into it to get the most juice squeezed. Then finish off your mix with a squirt of cocktail sauce and top off with a tomato and clam cocktail juice.
To make it more festive, add slices of avocado and a lime wedge to the rim of your margarita glasses. Time for a fiesta!!!
