I have been plagued with having less than perfect skin since I was eleven.  Skin care seems to be one of those categories that women will spend some serious money on, at least I did.  Over the years, I have tried pretty much every major brand in search of good exfoliating products.  Some have been really good.  I love the way my skin feels after using my Clarisonic.  I have been really impressed with the results of the NuBrilliance Home Micro-Dermabrasion.  I can even say that Oil of Olay has a thermal exfoliating mask I also really like.  But just about 7 weeks ago I found my absolute favorite and it costs pennies.


If you have read my blog before, you know that I love home made products.  I'm actually not a health nut (even though I would like to be) but I love trying natural solutions to everyday problems.  My pinterest obsession led my to realize I could replace almost all of my current skincare products with ones I can make at home.  This turned into a love for baking soda and how I made up this exfoliator.


Baking soda is the perfect ingredient for some serious exfoliating.  I've been hearing how good milk is for the skin since I was a little kid.  Beauty companies are always talking about Lactic Acid and all of the benefits.  So, I thought, why not combine the two for my home made exfoliator.

To make this exfoliator, I usually mix about 1/2 tsp milk with 2 tsp baking soda.  I just use my fingers to mix the 2 together and apply to my face after a splash of water.  I then spend about 30 seconds of gentle scrubbing.  I make sure to rinse really well, because dried baking soda on the skin is very unpleasant.

I have pretty sensitive skin, so I do have some redness afterwards.  This usually only takes about 10 minutes to go away.  I end up having super soft skin afterwards, and my pores look really clean.  My pores are even starting to shrink after using this for several weeks.

I would recommend using this Exfoliator once or twice a week.  I have tried using just baking soda and water, which was effective, but my skin was not as soft as with the milk.

Baking soda has become a bathroom staple for me.  The shaker of baking soda in the picture is kept in my bathroom.  I use it for this exfoliator, to mix with my shampoo, added in with my toothpaste, and to clean my tub and sink with.
