Don't you love a good sandwich?  I know that I do, and so does my hubby.  Not to brag, but he's not the only person who says my sandwiches are exceptional.  This turkey and apple sandwich with cheddar cheese is a new favorite in our house. I frequently make our sandwiches with pickles, lettuce, and tomatoes, but I didn't have any of those things on hand one day.  But I did have my other sandwich staples - meat, cheese, and a delicious bread.

So looking around my kitchen I was trying to think of what else I could use in place of my regular sandwich toppings.  Hello apples. I like my sandwich with a little crunch and sliced apples would be perfect for that.   I turned on my oven (because oven toasted sandwiches make THE best homemade sandwich recipes) and pulled out my other ingredients.

I almost always buy bakery fresh loaves of bread.  Have you noticed how your local supermarket has fresh unsliced bread for only a $1?  They probably do, or at least all of the supermarkets around here do.  And the bread is Ah-mazing.  Especially for $1, I think I can slice my own bread.  For this hot turkey sandwich recipe, I picked up a crazy delicious loaf of Italian bread covered in garlic and other spices.

While the sandwich were in the oven, I sliced my apples and gathered mustard, mayo, salt, and pepper.  And that's what went on top of the sandwiches once they came out of the oven.  I like to serve the sandwiches as soon as they come out of the oven with a side of chips.

sandwich sides other than chips

Although I love them, there are plenty of sandwich sides other than chips. Here are a few of my favorites.

I hope you enjoy turkey and apple sandwiches with cheddar as much as we do 🙂
