Yeah!  It's time for another family movie night at our house.  Since we are well into October, we decided it's time to get into the Halloween spirit.  But I have little kids, and I'm a big ole' scaredy cat myself, so we wanted a ghost movie that would be fun, not terrifying.  None of us had seen The New Ghostbusters movie, but it sounded awesome for our family movie night.   When we watch movies, we always like to have a yummy treat.  So, I made "Slimer" popcorn in honor of the movie.  That wasn't enough though. I felt like Slimer popcorn needed something special to be served in, so I also made these Ghostbusters ghost trap treat boxes.

Making the treat boxes was really easy and did not require any special equipment or material.

I started out with a black 12 x 12 piece of cardstock,  I used a ruler to mark my measurements.  I marked lines at 2, 4, 8, and 10 inches in directions and then turned the cardstock to mark lines 2 inches up from the edge on both the top and bottom of the paper.

To make life easier and to have nice clean fold marks, I like to score the lines with a pair of scissors.  Just make sure not to go all the way through the paper.

After scoring, the paper is really easy to fold along the lines.

Once all of the folds had been made, I cut out all four of the corners.

Then I cut the flaps just up until the fold line.  Make sure that you are cutting in the right direction.  You should be cutting in towards the center of the paper that has the folds at 2 inches up.

Then I formed the box by gluing the flaps to the end of the box.

For the details, I started by cutting (2) 1.5 inch x 7.5 in pieces of foil to glue to the sides of the treat box.

Then I cut a piece of yellow cardstock the same size as the treat box top flaps.  I marked and cut the yellow cardstock on a diagonal, then glued them to the top of the box.

2 half inch strips of red cardstock were glued right on top of the foil.  I also glued a red rectangle to the end of the treat box.

I was planning on having that be it for the treat box, but it felt like it was missing something.  So, I rolled up a piece of black cardstock to make a handle. I glued 2 small strips of black cardstock inside the newly formed tube so that I could attach it to the treat box with my glue stick.

Not counting the time I had to stop what I was doing to take pictures, the treat box took me about 15 minutes to put together.

Since my ghost trap treat boxes were to enjoy our Ghostbusters movie night, I needed to a treat to go in them.   I whipped up a batch of "Slimer" popcorn - green, apple flavored candied popcorn.  You can find the full recipe at the end of this post.

Because I was putting actual food inside the treat boxes, I lined them with foil (who wants glue getting on their yummy treat?)  Even though I used foil, wax paper or parchment would work also.

This size treat box along with this much candied popcorn is probably enough for at least 2 people.

I loved how everything turned out so I had to grab a photo with my new phone to share with my friends.  Isn't that a great picture quality?  Speaking of quality, you know who has an awesome quality phone plan?  Walmart Family Mobile PLUS, that's who.  The Walmart Family Mobile PLUS plan includes unlimited talk, text, and data which includes up to 10GB of 4G LTE data plus a free movie on VUDU ($7 value) every month.  You get all of that for $49.88 per line per month.
This is the LG K7 phone which is currently on rollback from $89.88 down to $49.88. This new phone required me to get the nano starter kit for my service plan which is also on rollback from $25 to $19.88.  Regardless if your new phone requires a nano starter kit or a regular starter kit, it's still only $19.88 to get started with the plan today.
As I mentioned, each line on the Walmart Family Mobile PLUS plan gets a free movie every month on VUDU.  That's what we usually use for family movie night.  But as of today (10/11), The New Ghostbusters movie is out on Blue-ray, DVD, and 4K Ultra HD.  What a fun way to get in the Halloween spirit with a movie that's not too scary!

The New Ghostbusters on Blue-ray has an extended edition with over 15 more minutes not seen in theaters plus over 3 hours of hilarious extras.  My little guy loved these ghost trap treat boxes, the Slimer popcorn, and laughing at the ladies getting slimed. You can pick up your copy of the movie at Walmart along with any other Ghostbusters gear you may need.
