This delicious Chinese dumpling soup is light, delicate, and perfect for welcoming the Chinese New Year.

Chinese New Year is right around the corner!  I'm so excited to host our Chinese New Year celebration this year.  This week we're preparing  by cleaning the house since traditionally on new year's day you do not want to clean your home or you may sweep away your luck for the coming year.  The kids and I are also having fun making red lanterns for our decorations.

It's the year of the dog and we'll also be celebrating by eating some of the foods the are supposed to bring luck with the new year.  Dumplings bring you luck in wealth - who doesn't want that!?!  These Ling Ling Potstickers are delicious on their own, but I decided to use the Ling Ling Pork and Vegetable Potstickers in a Chinese dumpling soup to serve to the family.

Ling Ling Potstickers are made with chicken or pork and tender vegetables packaged in a yummy dumpling wrapper.  Both varieties come with Ling Ling signature dipping sauce.  Ling Ling Asian Food also offers Drunken and Yakisoba noodles as well as a variety of fried rice.

This Chinese dumpling soup is very easy to make especially with the addition of Ling Ling Potstickers.

I love quick and easy recipes when I'm hosting any kind of event because that means I get to spend more time enjoying the company of loved ones.  This soup comes together in under 20 minutes including the prep.

It smells so good while it's cooking!

Last year my mom decided to have her DNA tested to find out where are ancestors are from.  I NEVER would have guessed some of the lineage that has popped up.  It got me to thinking about my kids' ancestry as well.  My husband is Hispanic with most of his family being from Mexico.  However, his great grandfather was  Chinese.  I already knew that my husband's grandfather was part Chinese - the family continues to practice parts of traditional Chinese culture.

But learning more about my own background made me want to dig a little deeper into the hubby's.  I learned that his great grandfather was from Canton, China.  He immigrated to Mexico and ended up settling there.  My mother-in-law has learned of a few of her relatives still living in Canton, and her dream is to visit them one day.

Through my mom's DNA testing, I learned that I have some Asian ancestors as well, but celebrating Chinese New Year is not unfamiliar to me prior to this discovery.  When my parents were in the Navy, they were both stationed in Japan and visited Hong Kong and other parts of China.  My mom loved the culture and traditions and raised us with these in mind.

How will you be celebrating the Chinese New Year?  Hopefully with loved ones, good food and lots of luck. I love that Ling Ling Asian Food makes it so easy and convenient to welcome the new year and enjoy traditional Asian flavors.  If you decide to have this Chinese dumpling soup as part of your celebration, I'd love to see how your's turned out!  Tag me on Instagram to share you picture.
