Welcome to day 3 of the 12 Days of Christmas inspiration blog hop! Today the ladies and I are sharing DIY Christmas decorations.
I'm mad for plaid. Over the last several years, I've had some kind of plaid in at least one of my rooms as Christmas decorations. I love tartan, gingham, argyle and of course buffalo plaid for Christmas! My goal in life is to have a Christmas tree in every room of my house one day. (Don't worry- I have other goals that actually matter too.) Meanwhile, I add touches of plaid wherever I can to my Christmas decor.
Since I entertain a lot (did I mention I have a huge extended family?) I have plenty of opportunities to show off the plaid. This buffalo plaid Christmas coffee table tray is perfect to carry multiple cups of hot chocolate for my little cousins and nieces and nephews, serve breakfast in bed, or put out nice small plates of goodies for my friends who drop over.
I am planning to use it on my cocoa bar to help make serving both easy and festive. Want to make one of your own or to use as a great gift? Here's what I did:
I found a really nice and sturdy tray made from wood and galvanized metal. I made sure it was well made and strong enough to carry food and drinks. Decorating my tray was a breeze because I used my Cricut Maker and an image from Cricut Design Space. Did you know Cricut makes a buffalo plaid vinyl? They do and it's awesome. The best part? It's removable! Even though my design is securely attached, I can remove it and come up with different ideas for other occasions. But for now, let's just concentrate on the joys of Christmas!

Buffalo Plaid Christmas Coffee Table Tray Supplies
- Cricut machine
- Buffalo Plaid Premium Vinyl
- StandardGrip Mat
- Transfer Tape
- Weeding Tool
- Galvanized Metal Tray
- Cricut Design Space Project
Instructions
Open the Cricut Design Space project and hit "Make It." Under the materials list you are going to choose "premium vinyl." Place your buffalo plaid vinyl onto a StandardGrip mat and load it into your Cricut Explore or Cricut Maker machine. Then press "go" and let the machine cut out your design.

Unload your mat and remove the buffalo plaid vinyl. Cut around the design with scissors so that you are not wasting vinyl. Then use a weeding tool to remove the extra vinyl from your design.

Add transfer tape to your vinyl. Press firmly over the surface to make sure that your buffalo plaid vinyl sticks to the tape.

Then place the vinyl onto your tray where you would like the design. Again, use pressure against the surface to make sure that the vinyl sticks to your tray. Carefully remove the transfer tape. If your vinyl comes up with tape, place the tape back down and smooth it out again.

Your tray is ready to use!
